Bev’s Big Stand
February 5, 2007 at 8:30 pm | In north carolina, policy, politics | Leave a CommentLate Monday evening, Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue issued a short statement calling for a moratorium on the death penalty. According to the N&O, she said that there are questions dealing with both lethal injection and the role of doctors in the executions which need to be addressed before the process should continue.
Aside from the fact that the Council of State is supposed to look at this issue in detail at a meeting tomorrow, Perdue’s announcement is politically significant because she is widely considered to be a Democratic front runner in the election to replace term-limited Gov. Mike Easley.
